Facility Design
Licensed CA civil engineer serving aquaculture for over 30 years. With over 10 years of university training in engineering and aquaculture plus 30 years designing, building and operating intensive aquaculture operations, Aquagen is uniquely qualified to help you design or upgrade to an effective and profitable aquaculture facility.
Water Treatment Systems
Recirculating systems require a full suite of water and wastewater treatment systems to manage a variety of water quality parameters. Aquagen Engineers specializes in applying innovative and proven water and wastewater treatment combined with recirculating aquaculture systems. This led to a unique design for our farm. Solids removal, biofiltration, gas exchange, heating and cooling, oxygenation, disinfection, nutrient removal, alkalinty and pH control are all vital aspects within the farm.

Monitoring and Control Systems
Aquaculture is an unforgiving business and the fish must be monitored 24/7 with alarm systems, automated controls, and redundant backup systems. Most losses are a result of a series of failures and can take months or years to recover from. We use PLC computers and VFD's to control pumps, valves, and oxygenation systems plus alarm systems to alert personnel of issues. We also integrate power backup systems and secondary power such as solar if desired. After nearly 30 years of operation we have never had a massive fish kill.

Fish Husbandry and Biology

Fish husbandry, spawning, nutrition, and diseases are some of the most challenging aspects of intensive aquaculture. The system design and water treatment systems are critical for providing an optimal environment for the fish to thrive and grow efficiently but knowledge of how to handle the fish is of equal importance. We have worked with a wide variety of aquaculture species including largemouth bass, catfish, sturgeon, striped bass, hybrid bass, and silver carp from spawning to live deliveries to food markets. We can help optimize and troubleshoot the complex factors that can lead to success or failure when growing fish in recirculating intensive systems.
